Woody's Woodfired Pizza

Woody's Wood-Fired Pizza is located in Golden, CO.  The reason that I wanted to eat here was because they have an all you can eat salad, soup and pizza buffet.

We were seated promptly and our order was taken.  We were told that the salad bars were at the bar and the waitress brought us our pizza plates. The one thing that I did not like about this place was that guests are not given clean plates to get refills of pizza.  You are supposed to use your dirty ones.  I have never seen that at a buffet before.  It just doesn't seem right to me.

The salad bar had your basics; salad, black olives, cheese, tomatoes, cucumbers, pasta salad.  I thought it was really good.

There was a wide variety of pizzas on the buffet bar; pepperoni, sausage and black olives, buffalo chicken, cheese, etc.  The pizza itself is good.  They do not skimp on the ingredients.  They have honey on the table to tip your crust in.  That is different. 

The service was really slow.  We only saw our waitress a few times.  She refilled our drinks and brought us our bill. She didn't have to bring us clean plans, so that cut down on our service.

The manager came around to each table and asked how everything was.

All in all, I enjoyed eating here.  They do serve other items other than pizza.  I noticed a few people with burgers and buffalo wings. They both looked good. The price of the buffet is $11.99 but you can also just buy the pizza by the slice.

Table Mountain Inn

This is a restaurant that is inside the hotel in Golden, CO, but you can see it from the street as they have patio seating. We ate here on a Saturday evening. We arrived before the restaurant portion opened, but we were rudely told by a waiter that we could eat in the Catina if we could find a seat. We couldn't find a seat. We passed by the hostess and we asked her what time the restaurant opened. She said she would find us a seat. We passed by the rude waiter and he said "It looks like it is going to work out for you after all." The hostess did not find us a seat but told us the restaurant opened in ten minutes. Wouldn't it be nice if the waiter could have told us the same thing? I think my husband would have been fine with leaving, but we stayed.

We started out our meal with Flaming Asadero Cheese.

No, it didn't set the place on fire, but it looks like it could have.

The Flaming Asadero Cheese is served with house made flatbread, chips and condiments.  It was very good.

My husband ordered the Poblano Del.  It is a roasted poblano pepper filled with shrimp, bay scallops, cotija and jack cheese, Chimayó red chili sauce.  He said it was very good.

 I ordered the Carnitas Burrito.  It is pork braised in traditional New Mexican seasonings, chipotle-onion blend, flour tortilla and smothered in green chili.

I wasn't impressed with the burrito.  I didn't feel it was seasoned at all.  I did take half of it home and ate it the next day for lunch and I enjoyed it more at home. I added cheese to it at home.

We thought the food was good, but we will not be returning because it didn't knock our socks off.  There have to be places in Denver that has food that will knock our socks off, right?

Old Capitol Grill

This restaurant is located in Golden, CO.  It is a small town that is full of shops and restaurants.

My husband and I ate here on a Saturday afternoon.  The place was very busy, but we were seated promptly.  I felt sorry for our waiter because he had a lot of tables.  He did the best he could and he was constantly on the move.

I was a little disappointed that I couldn't find out the history of the building.  I thought there might be something on the menu, but there wasn't anything.  Was it really the old Capitol?  I am not sure.  The building is old though.

I ordered the trail burger. It is a ½ lb fresh chuck with hickory bacon, BBQ sauce, American cheese, 1000 Island Dressing, lettuce and tomato on a soft bun.   I thought the BBQ sauce and 1000  Island Dressing sounded like an interesting combo, but I would have liked it much better without the 1000 Island Dressing.  The burger was good, not great.  The fries would have been better if they were warmer.  We were both really surprised to see that our meals were served with an apple.  I have never seen whole apples served with meals before this.

Jeff ordered the Buffalo Melt which is listed as a restaurant favorite.  It is a 1/2 lb American buffalo patty with Texas toothpicks, grilled onions, American cheese, and ranch dressing served on a soft bun.   He didn't care for the ranch dressing on it.  He said it was good, but not something memorable.

This was a nice place, but we were not really impressed with the food.  It was good, but nothing we go out of our way to eat again.
