Lester's Diner

Lester's is a 50's style restaurant that has been in business in South Florida for over 43 years.  We ate lunch here on a Saturday afternoon and the place was very busy.

Okay, so it doesn't look busy here, but it was.  I try not to get people in my photos

There is a small bakery at the front of the restaurant.  It all looked really good.
The specials were listed at the front of the restaurant.  I chose the Cowboy Burger which was a burger with cheese and BBQ pork.  It was really good.  The burger wasn't great, but the BBQ pork really gave it a nice flavor.  The fries were okay.  The coleslaw was a little dry.  I enjoyed my meal though.

Cowboy Burger, Fries and Coleslaw
Jeff ordered Liver and Onions.  He ordered mashed potatoes and gravy and coleslaw as his sides.  He said it was really good.

Liver and Onions
The service was very good.  The prices were reasonable.  This is a nice place for a meal.

Mineo's Wings, Pizza & Raw Bar

We decided to order a pizza for dinner.  Mineo's has left brochures at our campground, so we decided to give them a try.  The menu on the brochure says they have a Deluxe or create your own.  I decided to order the Deluxe.  The girl who answered the phone seemed confused and asked someone nearby about the Deluxe.  She came back and said they do not have a deluxe.  I asked what they had and she again asked someone else who told her they had a supreme.  Okay, that is close enough, so I ordered the supreme.

The Supreme - mushrooms, pepperoni, green peppers, sausage, grilled onions and a little cheese.
The pizza was pretty good.  The crust was not strong enough to support the toppings though.  The bottom of the box was greasy.  I am not sure what caused that.

I doubt we will order from them again.  We were not impressed.  This was a $22 pizza.

Tijuana Taxi Co

We ate here on Father's Day and the place was packed.  We were seated quickly, but our waitress was very busy and it took her a while to take our drink order.

The inside has a fun decor.

The bar.

The chips and salsa were really good.  We would have eaten more, but our waitress didn't make it back to our table until after our food was served.  She asked if we wanted more, but we said no since we were eating our meal.

It took me a while to figure out what I wanted to eat because there are so many options.  I debated between a skirt steak and a chimi.  I decided to go for the chimi because I hadn't had Mexican since we left Texas.

Chimichanga with Shredded Beef
The chimichanga was really good.  The chimi was stuffed with shredded beef and beans.  The Spanish rice and refried beans were also very good.

Jeff ordered the Palmomilla Steak Dinner which is what I almost ordered. The skirt steak is grilled. Onions and mushrooms are served on top.  It is served with fried plantains.  Jeff said they were some of the best that he has ever had.  He chose tamale cakes and chili cheese mashed potatoes as his sides.  He enjoyed the meal.  The plantains and the tamale cakes were his favorite part of it.

Palmomilla Steak Dinner
We enjoyed eating here even though our waitress was really slow getting back to us with drinks, our checks and our change.  She was really busy and every time she tried to get to us, someone us got her attention.

Grampa's Bakery & Restaurant

This restaurant appeared on Diner's, Drive-Ins and Dives.  They definitely want everyone to know they were on the show.  The show is playing on the TV, there is a schedule of when it will be on Food Network again, they have Guy's book for sale and there are posters on the walls and I think on a window.  I don't blame them for playing it up because it is bringing in the business for them.

The waitress we had was very sweet.  She said her parents owned the place.  The owner spoke with several customers.  It is a very pleasant place.

I really couldn't decide what I wanted to eat and I broke my own rule and ordered lasagna.  I normally only order pasta at Italian restaurants and I wish I wouldn't have broken my rule.  I didn't like it.  I didn't care for the sauce and it was actually pretty dry between the layers.  The mozzarella cheese on the top was the best part.

Lasagna with Garlic Bread

Our meals came with a side salad.  The salad is pretty plain as you can see.  It is lettuce and tomatoes.

Side Salad
We were served bread along with cinnamon rolls.  The bread and the cinnamon rolls were good.

Jeff ordered the Broiled Seafood Platter.  He said it was okay.

Broiled Seafood Platter
I think we would have liked it better if we had ordered something like meatloaf or maybe their fried chicken.  Their "comfort" type foods are probably really good. I also think their breakfasts are probably good, too.

A bakery is attached to the restaurant and you must enter the bakery to pay your bill.  This is another smart move on their part.  Their prices were a little high and I would have bought something, but only one person was working the bakery and taking payments and the line was long and I grew impatient, so I just paid the bill and left.

The Pirate Republic Seafood Grill & Bar

Jeff and I arrived here by water taxi on a Saturday afternoon.  I was disappointed that they did not have indoor seating because I wanted air conditioning.  LOL  Jeff said he had planned on sitting outside all along.  As you may have figured, the restaurant sits on the water of a canal.

I was a little concerned that we were the only ones there, but more people showed up while we were eating.

All teas and sodas come in a bottle, but a glass of ice is also served.

I ordered The Pirate Republic Burger.  It is made according to the menu with a homemade blend of prime rib, NY strip, rib eye and top sirloin and grilled to perfection. You can also add bacon, pickles, onions, roasted red peppers, caramelized onions or even a fried egg FREE OF CHARGE.  Along with one choice of: mayo, spicy mayo, pesto mayo, tartar sauce, buffalo, regular BBQ or sweet and spicy BBQ.  I chose the spicy mayo and it was so good.  I used it on my fries.  I tried a little on my sandwich, but it was a little strong on that.  The burger was really good.  I ordered it medium and it was actually medium.  I rarely get a true medium burger. It is usually served to me as medium well.

The Pirate Republic Burger

Jeff ordered the Brethehen Kobe Beef Burger.  From the menu: Famous Japanese Wagyu beef ground to make a delicate burger patty served with arugula and tangy Brazilian Catupiry cream cheese. He ordered yucca fries.  He enjoyed the burger and the yucca fries were different.  I tried them and liked them.

Almost to the water.

Yacht passing us.
The service was good.  We were served fast enough that we were able to catch the next water taxi.  They come by about every 40 minutes.

We enjoyed eating here even though the prices are a little high, but you are paying for the view.  My burger was $13.50 and Jeff's was $18.

Flanigan's Seafood Bar & Grill

Flanigan's is a chain restaurant.  I looked at the menu online and there were no prices.  I hate when restaurants do that.  Do they think it makes them get more customers?  We almost didn't go for that very reason.  I decided to give it a try because if it was really expensive, I would just have a hamburger.

Aquarium that is behind the hostess desk.
We were seated promptly and I was happy to see that the prices were very reasonable. Our drinks were served in souvenir cups and if we come back with them, we can get our drinks for $1.99.
The walls were full of fish.  Jeff liked that they were labeled.

We started out our meal with an appetizer.  This is from the menu:

 JOE'S ROCKIN' RIB ROLLS TM
Deep fried, homemade egg rolls, filled with rib meat from Flanigan's famous baby back ribs, pulled pork, cheddar cheese, onions, and our award winning barbeque sauce. These melt-in-your-mouth delectables are an exclusive, Flanigan's baby back creation, so you won't be able to get this item any place else, and if you do, it cannot be the "real deal"!

Rockin' Rib Rolls
I thought the rib rolls were great!  Jeff said he tasted mostly pulled pork and he was disappointed.  I still say they were great.

I ordered the rib-eye with a loaded baked potato.  The coleslaw is complimentary, if you ask for it.  Why should you have to ask for it?  My steak was really good but it was not a rib-eye.  I think it was a strip steak.  I didn't complain about it because honestly, I didn't notice until Jeff mentioned it. The coleslaw was really good. It was very creamy.  The baked potato was loaded with bacon and cheese and it was very good.

Rib-eye? Dinner
Jeff ordered the Fresh Dolphin.  This is from the menu:

FRESH DOLPHIN
Flanigan's Specialty!  Sandwich or dinner:  blackened, broiled, grilled, sautéed, deep fried.

Fresh Dolphin
Jeff said his meal was good.  If you are a regular reader of my blog, you know that my husband doesn't give rave reviews very often, so it has to be great for him to say much.

We enjoyed eating here and we would probably return if we were staying longer here.

Davie Ale House / Miller's Ale House

We were looking for a good place to eat on a Saturday night and the menu that I found on the Internet looked good.  The reviews were not all good as some complained about the service, but we decided to give it a try.

We were seated promptly and our waiter took our order in a reasonable time.  We did notice that two other tables were having problems with their waitress.  Another couple came in and were seated by us.  No one came to wait on them and they asked the hostess who walked by if she could help. She asked if they seated themselves and they told her no. They told her someone seated them. She said it must have been someone on the waitstaff.   She said she was the hostess and they were in a section without a waitress.  She said she would see if someone would wait on them. She came back and said that no one wanted to take the table, but they could move if they wanted to do so.  The couple was not happy with that answer, so they left.  Ten minutes later, another couple was seated at that table and they had a waitress immediately.

The menu has many items to choose from including steaks, seafood and pasta.  I chose one of the specialities which is baby back ribs.

Full Slab of Baby Back Ribs, Fries and Slaw
The baby back ribs were very tender.  I wasn't fond of the BBQ sauce though.  The fries were stale. I didn't care much for the slaw as it was pretty dry.

Jeff ordered a side salad and a shrimp dinner.  He enjoyed both.  He was brought out a fresh basket of fries and they were very good.
Side Salad

Shrimp and Broccoli- Sorry can't find the name of the dish on the menu.
We enjoyed eating here, but they definitely have some issues with some of their employees.

The Field Irish Pub & Eatery

We were driving around on Saturday looking for a place for lunch.  This place looked so charming, that we decided to give it a try.

Banyan Tree outside The Field Irish Pub & Eatery
Entryway into the restaurant

Entryway into restaurant.
The restaurant is very charming on the inside.  It has hardwood floors as well as wood on the walls.  The only problem is that it is very dark inside.  It took our eyes a while to adjust.  Irish music was playing softly in the background.  Live music is played on certain days.

The menu had many dishes to choose from.  I should have ordered the Shepherd's Pie for something different but I chose a burger.

Field Burger
I ordered the Field Burger.  It is topped with sautéed mushrooms, onions, Monterey jack cheese and BBQ.  The burger was very good.  The only thing it was lacking was enough BBQ sauce.  The BBQ sauce was just barely there.  The fries were good and nicely seasoned.

Jeff was more adventurous than me which is common.  He ordered fish and chips.

Fish & Chips
Jeff said his meal was good.  We were surprised by the size of the fish.

We ordered onion rings as an appetizer.

Black & Tan Onion Rings
The onion rings had a different flavor.  We are not sure how the black marks were made, but that may be what caused them to have their flavor.  They were very good.

We enjoyed eating here.  The decor makes it a fun place to have a meal.  I would like to eat here again.
